Carte de Visite Bust Portrait in Civilian Clothes of Captain James J. White who Commanded Co. I 4th Virginia Vols, the "Liberty Hall Volunteers," during the Civil War. The image bears the period ink script ID on the front "Lord Zeus" which is the sobriquet acquired by White while a professor of classics at Washington College. White was commissioned captain in the 4th Va. June 2, 1861, and resigned his commission September 6. Fine quality, excellent condition, and a scarce image.
