Apollo 11: Janet Armstrong's Personal Crew-Signed "Type One" Insurance Cover Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A philatelic cover with the "Apollo 8" 6¢ stamp (Scott #1371) affixed, machine canceled at Houston, Texas, on July 20, 1969, the day Apollo 11 landed on the moon. The color cachet features the text: "NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club/ Official Commemorative Cover/ First Manned Lunar Exploration" above a colorful moon scene. It is beautifully signed to the right in blue felt tips: "Neil Armstrong", "Michael Collins", and "Buzz Aldrin". The inside of the flap is signed in blue ballpoint: "Insurance cover from/ my personal collection/ Janet S Armstrong". A perfect display piece with the crew's signatures and the familiar mission insignia. A real rarity as inscribed by Neil's wife. Uneven toning on front, overall very fine. Sealed in a numbered archival sleeve. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.Apollo 11 was the first flight in which insurance covers were utilized. They were produced for the crew to sign together before their launch to the moon, and then leave behind with their families as a form of insurance that could be sold should they fail to return. The astronauts could fly with confidence knowing that they left behind an asset that could be sold to take care of their families.
