Description

Signed aboard the U.S.S. Essex on August 15, 1951

Neil Armstrong Original Signed Copy of His 1951 Navy Last Will and Testament. Both sides of a single 8.5" x 11" printed form, filled in by typewriter, witnessed by three on the verso and signed by Armstrong on the front. It is dated August 15, 1951, just days before the well-known incident where his plane was struck by enemy fire as described by him in the previous lot. This was a standard Navy form and procedure. He leaves all to his father Stephen Koenig Armstrong or, in the case of him not being alive at Neil's death, to his mother Viola Louise Armstrong. He appoints his father as executor and signs in blue ink at the bottom: "Neil A. Armstrong". On the verso is the witness statements, all signed in blue ink, by Daniel V. Marshall Jr LT USN, John M. Moore LT USN, and John W. Carpenter MAJ USAF. All three of these officers were fellow pilots of the VF-51 squadron which was divided into six divisions of four planes. Marshall was head of the fifth division and Carpenter headed up the sixth with Moore and Armstrong who flew as his wingman. Definitely a museum-quality piece of history. Toning and original folds, otherwise fine.

This lot will be accompanied by a signed COA from Neil Armstrong's brother, Dean.
