Description

Ballard .46 RF Caliber Military Style Rifle, #15307, Mfg. 1865. Conforms in every detail to the military rifle, with the exception of the use of a sporting, rather than military style, buttplate. Overall really excellent condition, untouched with all metal exhibiting smooth dark patina, absolutely no rust or pitting. The tang is fitted with an adjustable peep sight that appears to be factory. Fine crisp markings including those of Ballard (Patent Nov. 5, 1861), Ball & Williams and Merwin & Bray. Wood also excellent, near perfect, with just a few minor dents and nice patina. Interestingly a small silver oval plaque has been inlaid, obviously period, on the right side of the butt stock which originally carried an engraved inscription, which is now illegible. Very nice rifle in wonderful untouched condition.
