Description
Exceptional Quality, Fine Condition, American Eaglehead Artillery Officer's Sword C. 1830. 31 1/2" straight blade in superb condition. Decorated for 2/3 its length with fire blue and gilt highlighted engraved military and scroll motifs. The fire blue panels terminate in scrolls on both sides and retains 95% of the original fire blue and gilt. The balance of the blade exhibits most of the original luster. Absolutely no nicks, rust or pitting. A very attractive blade. Blade retains the original red wool washer. The knucklebow composed of leaf and scroll sections with flattened balls between each section. Very fine quality eaglehead with open mouth and brass rosette inset on top of the pommel. Profusely carved ivory/bone grip perfect with nice mellow patina and decorated 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. The disc quillon is decorated with hand engraved scrolls. Hilt retains 60% of the original gilt. Plain brass scabbard with just two tiny, really negligible, dents and retaining vestiges of the original gilt in protected areas, overall about 20%. The single carrying ring is broken an missing from the middle mount, easily repaired, while the top mount utilizes two carrying rings. Rudimentary reinforced drag. A very pretty American eaglehead in a rare form and superb condition.Auction Info
