Description

Scarce Form, Confederate Foot Officer's Sword by Boyle & Gamble of Richmond, Virginia. About identical to Fig 2-G in Albaugh's photo supplement, with V piercing in guard and with etched blade. The entire sword completely "in the black" untouched, really superb. The 31" slightly curved blade with characteristic flaw 1.75" from the hilt, rather narrow unstopped fuller, etched for one half its length with typical B. & G. motifs of tobacco leaves, scrolls and crossed flags. Blade with smooth dark patina, very nice, absolutely no rust or pitting. Hilt perfect with deep dark untouched patina and traces of gilt, very sharp. Grip also about perfect with just a few minor scuffs and all of the original single strand copper wire wrap. There is no scabbard. An exceptional example of this very desirable sword by one of the Confederacy's most famed and prolific makers.
