Superb Condition, Very Rare Bowie Knife and Sheath with an Absolutely Authentic Boldly-Etched "Texas Ranger" Filling Much of the Length of the Blade, Circa 1840-50. Exceptional example with the all German silver handle beautifully emblazoned with a high relief, well detailed, large American eagle at the pommel on both sides (wings downward), bearing large American shield on its breast over large relief scroll designs and a panel on the lower section of the handle with a design exhibiting a field of stars. Narrow oval German silver cross guard. The 8.75" single edge, clip point, the blade is etched almost to its very tip with a large panel (in excellent+ condition) of delicate scroll motifs and very bold center panel emblazoned with the words "TEXAS RANGER". Condition of the blade is excellent - mint, showing almost no use and bears the markings of noted maker on the ricasso; "S. C. WRAGG / 25 FURNACE HILL / SHEFFIELD." Accompanied by the original, fine condition, dark green colored leather sheath beautifully embossed full length on both sides with panels of red and green overlay coloring; German silver mounts and original frog stud perfect. A handsome and large Bowie, 14.5" overall, in wonderful condition, with only a handful of specimens known bearing this extremely desirable blade motto.Prov. Flayderman Collection
