Description

French Cuirassier Helmet and Breastplate, c.1910. The French cuirass breastplate and backplate are complete with chain-link shoulder straps. The chain linked shoulder straps and brass connecting pieces are in very good condition. The leather waist strap is missing. The helmet has a steel skull with brass edging, fittings, and a crest with repoussé decoration, the head of Medusa at the front, above a crest with a grenade. The front peak is steel and the back is a short lobster-tail, both edged in brass. A black horsehair tail hangs from the rear of the comb. Plume holder on the left side of the skull and leather-backed link chin-chain. The leather liner is strong. Both pieces are fine examples.
