Description

Vermont Brigade, 3rd Regiment, Vermont Volunteers, Civil War ID Disc. The reverse is stamped, "W. P. Carrol / Co. K /3rd / Reg. /Vt. Vol. / East. Haven". The obverse has an American eagle with outstretched wings, and "War of 1861" above, and "United States", below. The 1.125" brass disc is holed at 12 o'clock (obverse).

Wesley Carrol enlisted on July 10, 1861 in East Haven, Vermont as a private. He was discharged for disability on February 6, 1863. Carrol reenlisted as a private on September 17, 1863 and was mustered into the 3rd Vermont Light Artillery. He mustered out of Union service on June 15, 1865.

The 3rd Regiment, Vermont Volunteer Infantry, a three-year infantry regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War, served in the Eastern Theater, predominantly in the VI Corps, Army of the Potomac. The 3rd Vermont Battery mustered into United States service on January 1, 1864, with 151 men, and gained 105 recruits during its career. The battery was mustered out of service on June 15, 1865. The battery was engaged at Petersburg Mine, on July 30, 1864, and Petersburg on August 18, 1864, March 25, 1865, and April 2, 1865, when it fired the signal round that started the attack on Confederate positions, with the 1st Vermont Brigade in the van.
