Description

James Whitesides Document Signed. One page, 6.8" x 6.75", Austin ; August 3, 1828. A listing of fees owed to James Whitesides and William McFarlan by the "Ayuntamto de Austin" [Austin town hall] for the incarceration of a criminal charged with murder for 44 days, and the pay for two men to keep guard. Whitesides and McFarlan are owed a total of 132 pesos. Signed "James Whitesides", with McFarlan signing underneath. James Whitesides (1771-1848) arrived in Texas from Missouri in as one of Stephen Austin's original Old Three Hundred colonists. He is listed as a judge at alcalde elections in 1826. He died on April 24, 1848. From the Robert E. Davis Collection.
Condition: Gently toned, with several small pin holes and a stray ink stain; otherwise fine condition.
