[Texas Veterans Association]. Proceedings, Constitution, By-Laws and Addresses of the Texas Veterans Held at Belton, Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, 1883. Austin, Texas: Deffenbaugh & Co. [1883]. 8vo (5.5" x 8.25"), 80pp. With light green printed wrappers. Includes a listing of all members that died after their initial meeting in 1874. OCLC lists only one other copy at the New York Historical Society Museum & Library. Only soldiers serving in the army during the years of the Republic could claim membership, resulting in natural attrition. The group disbanded in 1907. From the Robert E. Davis Collection.

Condition: Light chipping to very edges of wraps and spine, with scattered foxing. Interior pages are evenly toned and very clean.


More Information: According to the Association's constitution included in the appendix, members were divided into three classes. The first class included members of the Old Three Hundred and soldiers, seamen, and citizens who could prove service in Texas between 1820 and October 15, 1836. The second class was made up of soldiers and sailors who could prove service between October 15, 1836, and November 1, 1837. The third class included those who had proof of service between November 1, 1837 and annexation in 1845.
