Description
Moon Money Tokens: "1 Astron" (NGC MS62) and "2 Astron" (NGC MS63), from Regency Coin & Stamp, 1961. According to Space Historian Howard Weinberger, these 32mm octagonal tokens were "given out at the Winnipeg Red River Exhibition in 1961 by the Regency Coin & Stamp Co. The obverse states 'Good for 1 Astron [or 2 Astrons]' and 'Redeemable for at any store or bank on the Moon until 12-31-1969', which ironically coincided with President Kennedy's call to land a man on the Moon by the end of the decade during his speech in September 1962. These are Canadian and very few have come to market thus far. We are happy to offer one of each denomination: I Astron (NGC #6446884-001, Aluminum) and 2 Astrons (NGC #5935201-008, Brass). According to the "Moon Money" article on SpaceFlownArtifacts.com, the 2 Astron is the rarer of the two. A rare pair of very early Space tokens from The Howard Weinberger Collection.Auction Info
