Description

Skylab (SL-1) Flown Fragment of Space Station as Recovered in Australia, Signed by Three Skylab Astronauts, in Lucite Display. A flat 1" square metal fragment encapsulated in a 4" tall x 3.5" square (at base) pyramid-shaped Lucite display with the Skylab insignia. It is seated in a canvas base that has been signed on three sides in gold felt tip: "Alan Bean", "Jack Lousma", and "Paul Weitz". On the bottom of the base is a decal that reads in full: "Skylab, America's first space station, was launched on May 14, 1973, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. After orbiting the Earth 34,981 times and traveling almost 1 billion miles, the space station reentered the Earth's atmosphere on July 11, 1979. Discovered in Western Australia after surviving its fiery reentry, this historical Skylab fragment was authenticated by NASA." The first example we have offered featuring signatures. Very fine.
