Skylab Medical Experiments Altitude Test (SMEAT) Crew-Signed NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club Commemorative Cover [with] Color Photo. An attractive philatelic cover issued for SMEAT, neatly signed by all three crewmembers: "Karol J. Bobko", "Bob Crippen", and "Wm Thornton". The cover features the colorful Snoopy-inspired mission insignia at left, with text reading "Official Commemorative Cover/ 56-Day Skylab Medical Experiments Altitude Test." At upper right is an 8¢ "Decade of Achievement" commemorative stamp picturing the Lunar Roving Vehicle, canceled at Houston, Texas, on July 26, 1972. Very fine.SMEAT was an important 56-day ground-based simulation carried out in Houston in 1972, designed to replicate Skylab's confined conditions and evaluate biomedical protocols, diet, habitability, and workload before America's first space station missions. The test provided invaluable data for long-duration spaceflight, with Bobko, Crippen, and Thornton all going on to distinguished astronaut careers in the Shuttle era.
