Apollo 16 Flown 64-C Beta Cloth Flag Originally from the
Personal Collection of Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke, Signed and
Certified with Letter of Authentication, in Framed Display with
Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch. An incredibly rare 8" x 7"
beta cloth (6.25" x 4.5" sight size) that was carried aboard the
Command Module Casper during its five-day stay in lunar
orbit, April 19-24, 1972. The flag's insignia was adopted by the

School (now the USAF Test Pilot School), and is one of only twelve
that Duke carried in his PPK. It has been signed in black ink:
"Flown To The Moon/ Aboard CSM 'Casper'/ Charles M Duke Jr/
Apollo 16 LMP". It has been beautifully matted and framed with
a 4" embroidered mission insignia patch to an overall size of 13" x
17". Incredible chance to obtain a rare artifact in outstanding
display. Excellent.Included with this lot is a signed LOA on Duke's personal letterhead that states in part: "This is to certify that this eight (8) by seven (7) inch Beta cloth flag embossed 64-C accompanied me to the Moon on Apollo 16 aboard our Command Module Casper. This flag then spent the next five days on board Casper stored in my PPK while Casper orbited the moon and John Young and I explored the Descartes Highlands of the Moon for almost 72 hours.
"This flag represents my United States Air Force Test Pilot School class. Our class started training in August 1964 under the command of then Colonel Chuck Yeager, Commandant. The class graduated in August 1965. This class produced four Astronauts. They were Charlie Duke, Apollo 16; Stu Roosa, Apollo 14; Al Worden, Apollo 15; and Hank Hartsfield, STS-4, STS-41D, STS-61-A.
"This flag always reminds me of our great class and our spirit of competition, and the friendships that were forged through our year together at Edwards AFB".
