Apollo 15 Lunar Module Flown American Flag on Crew-Signed Mat, Presented to U.S. Ambassador Walter Stoessel. A 20" x 16" mat bearing a 9.875" x 7.75" color photo of the Jim Irwin on the lunar surface, a 6" x 4" U.S. flag, a 4" embroidered mission insignia patch and a printed note: "This Flag Carried To The Lunar Surface During The First Extended Scientific Exploration Of The Moon, July 26-August 7, 1971." Handwritten below the photo by Al Worden is the following personal dedication: "To Ambassador Walter Stoessel With Warmest Personal Regards/ And Great Appreciation For Your Support And Hospitality From/ The Crew of Apollo 15 Jan 18, 1972." Beneath that are the crew signatures: "Dave Scott", "Al Worden", and "Jim Irwin". This is the first lunar surface flown Apollo 15 flag in these displays that Heritage has offered. Typical fading to much of the mat and usual bleedthrough from the adhesive on the flag. Frame shows signs of age related wear.
