Description

Apollo 17 Flown Beta Cloth Mission Insignia, Signed and Certified by Mission Commander Gene Cernan, in Framed Display. A historic Apollo 17 Beta cloth mission patch 6.25" x 6.25" (sight size), flown to the Moon aboard the Command Module America during NASA's final Apollo lunar mission, December 7-19, 1972. The patch bears the colorful mission insignia depicting Apollo, the Greek god of the Sun, set against the U.S. flag and a stylized lunar surface, and is boldly inscribed and signed in black felt-tip pen: "Flown aboard 'America'/ Gene Cernan, Apollo XVII CDR." The patch is elegantly matted and framed beneath a silver Apollo 17 commemorative medallion and an engraved metal plaque reading: "Beta Cloth Patch/Flown to the Moon/Apollo 17 - Dec. 1972." The Apollo 17 mission, commanded by Captain Eugene A. "Gene" Cernan, with Ron Evans (CMP) and Dr. Harrison Schmitt (LMP), marked the sixth and final Apollo Moon landing, launching from Kennedy Space Center on December 7, 1972, and returning on December 19.
Cernan became the last person to walk on the Moon, departing the lunar surface on December 14, 1972. A beautiful artifact from the final lunar mission of the Apollo program. Overall dimensions 12.5" x 15.75", very fine.
