Description

Apollo 17 Lunar Module Flown American Flag Originally Presented by Ron Evans, Directly from the Estate of Albert H. Crews. A 5.5" x 4.125" cloth U.S. flag " with a one page 5.25" x 7.5" letter on NASA JSC letterhead dated March 15, 1977, reading as follows:

"Dear Grace: This flag Of Our nation flew to the moon aboard the spaceships 'AMERICA' and 'CHALLENGER,' Apollo XVII. December 6-19, 1972. I am honored to share this treasure with you in appreciation of your enthusiasm, to the achievements of the greatest nation in the history of the world. Your personal support and encouragement were deeply felt by me and my family during the flight of Apollo XVII. Sincerely, [signed] 'Ron Evans' Ronald E. Evans. Captain, USN (Retired). NASA Astronaut."

The "Grace" he refers to is Grace Crews, wife of Albert. The fact that Evans mentions Challenger indicates that this flag went to the lunar surface aboard the LM. No flag ever spent more time on the moon than this one as Apollo 17 still holds the record for lunar surface time, more than three full days. Original mailing envelope included, very fine.
