Description

Ex. James McDivitt

Apollo 9 Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James McDivitt, Signed and Certified, with His Signed Certificate of Authenticity. This 3.5" diameter patch is signed on the verso in green felt tip: "Flown Aboard Apollo 9/ Jim McDivitt". It depicts a Saturn V rocket orbited by a lunar module and a command/service module trailing fire against a blue background. The crew surnames are around at top and the mission name at bottom, inside a red border. Apollo 9, March 3-13, 1969, was the first space test of the complete Apollo spacecraft that included the third piece of Apollo hardware, the lunar module. Its three-man crew consisted of Commander James McDivitt, Command Module Pilot David Scott, and Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart. The signed COA from Jim McDivitt reads, in full: "This 3.375" embroidered Apollo 9 mission patch, with the red center of the 'D' in my name signifying my position as mission commander, was flown aboard Apollo 9 in Earth orbit, 3-13 March 1969, and is from my personal collection. I have signed and endorsed the back with 'Flown Aboard Apollo 9' in green." Excellent.
