Description
Apollo 12 Flown Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package Emblem in Acrylic Display, Directly from the Dr. Rocco Petrone Family Collection. A 2.625" clear acrylic display cube containing a small (approximately 0.875" x 0.75") metal emblem of an astronaut in a spacesuit carrying an experimental package, with the text: "APOLLO XII/ ALSEP/ November 19, 1969". On the bottom is printed the following explanatory text between the NASA and Bendix logos: "This Emblem Of The Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package Being Carried To Its Deployment Site On The Ocean Of Storms Was Taken To The Surface Of The Moon And Returned To Earth On The Apollo XII Spacecraft By Astronauts Conrad, Gordon And Bean. November 1969." Light scratches could be polished out, very fine.The Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) deployment during the Apollo 12 mission marked a significant milestone in lunar and planetary science. Deployed by astronauts Charles Conrad and Alan L. Bean on the moon's Ocean of Storms in November 1969, ALSEP comprised a suite of scientific instruments designed to conduct long-term experiments on the lunar surface to gather seismic, atmospheric, and solar data. This innovative setup provided the first on-site continuous monitoring station, transmitting invaluable data back to Earth until its deactivation in 1977. The ALSEP's deployment not only extended our understanding of the moon's geophysical properties but also set a precedent for future extraterrestrial scientific exploration, demonstrating the feasibility and importance of operating sophisticated equipment in harsh, alien environments.
