Ex. Deke Slayton

Apollo 10 Flown American Flag [and] Mission Insignia Patch on Crew-Signed Certificate Presented to NASA's Director of Flight Crew Operations Deke Slayton, Originally from His Personal Collection. A 5.75" x 4.25" cloth U.S. flag along with a 4" x 4.125" embroidered mission insignia patch (the desirable Grumman Crew Patch) mounted on a 14" x 11" matboard that reads: "This Flag and Patch Carried to the Moon On Apollo X 18-26 May 1969/ With Our Sincere Thanks to Deke Slayton". Signed beneath in black felt tip: "Tom Stafford", "John Young", and "Gene Cernan". A particularly pleasing example with no glue bleedthrough on the flag and only minor fading to the signatures. Excellent.

Apollo 10, launched on May 18, 1969, served as the final dress rehearsal for the first lunar landing, successfully demonstrating all mission operations except the actual landing on the Moon. The mission achieved a closest approach of just 14.4 kilometers (9 miles) to the lunar surface, allowing astronauts to test the Lunar Module's systems and perform critical rendezvous and docking maneuvers in lunar orbit. Additionally, Apollo 10 set a record for the highest speed attained by a crewed vehicle at 39,897 km/h (24,791 mph) during its return to Earth, paving the way for the subsequent Apollo 11 mission. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
