Description

Gemini 12 Flown American Flag on a Crew-Signed Presentation Mat. A 6" x 4" cloth U.S. flag that flew on the last mission of the Gemini program. It is mounted on an 8" x 10" mat board bearing the printed information: "This flag was carried onboard the spacecraft during the flight of Gemini XII, by astronauts James A. Lovell and Edwin Aldrin. November 11-15, 1966". The bold black felt tip crew signatures are beneath: "James Lovell" and "Buzz Aldrin". Age related toning, otherwise very fine.

As the final mission of NASA's Gemini program, Gemini 12 marked a significant milestone in the lead-up to the Apollo moon landings. In addition to being the final flight before the Apollo program it featured two astronauts who would play crucial roles going forward. James Lovell would fly on Apollo 8, the first crewed spaceflight to reach the Moon. Just a short time later Aldrin would be the second man to set foot on the lunar surface as part of the Apollo 11 mission. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
