Description

[Slavery]. Two Cartes de Visite. The first, measuring 2.25" x 3.75" and titled, "White and Black Slaves From New Orleans," features a black woman and child and what appears to be a light-skinned girl of mixed ancestry, circa 1863. According to a notation on the verso, the photo was sold to support "the education of colored people." The second, measuring 2.5" x 4" and bearing the backstamp of W.C. Tuttle of Belfast, Maine, features five black children. It is unknown who the children are or whether they were at one time slaves. Both are in very good condition.
