Description

Robert E. Lee Field Printed General Orders No. 119. Single sheet, 3.75" x 7.5"; October 16, 1862. Orders issued: "To give uniformity of prices in purchases made by disbursing Officers of this Army, the Chief Quartermaster and Chief Commissary of Subsistence... will establish fixed rates for all such supplies, for which immediate payment will be made." He further stipulates that all parties refusing the fixed prices will have supplies taken from them "and they provided with certificates setting forth this fact..." Signed in type by Robert H. Chilton as Assistant Adjutant General.

Condition: Toning and scattered foxing. Small tears in lower margin, with bits of paper loss not affecting any text. Small hole beneath "General Orders". Ink showthrough from verso, where sheet was likely used as a blotter. Dark ink stain at top through header.
