Description
Civil War Private Purchase Haversack Identified to Charles H. Griffin, Co A, 45th Massachusetts Infantry. This private purchase leather haversack measures 11.5" x 13"; there is a scalloped binding sewn around the edge of the flap. The double bag interior is tarred linen. The bottom linen bag features the name; "Chas. H. Griffin CO. A. 45th REG'T. M.V." in unquestionably period white paint with clear large lettering. The haversack is missing its sling and the small interior leather straps, but is in sound condition. Charles H. Griffin enlisted on September 15, 1862 as a private and mustered into Company A 45th Massachusetts Infantry. He mustered out on July 7, 1863.Auction Info
