Martin Buber (1878-1965) was an Austrian Jewish and Israeli philosopher. He is best known for his book, Ich und Du, published in 1923, in which he established his philosophy of dialogue. The main idea being that what matters is to establish a relationship with God, rather than try to work out what God means in a more abstract sense. He used Greek and Jewish philosophy to develop his ideas about the intersection of religion and interpersonal relationships.
