Description

Fair Copy of a William C. C. Claiborne Letter as Governor of Louisiana Signed by David B. Morgan. One page, 7.75" x 9.5"; New Orleans; February 5, 1815. A month after the victory at the Battle of New Orleans, Governor Claiborne sends notice to David B. Morgan at Camp Morgan that he is sending an officer "to organize the several detachments of Louisiana Militia now there into companies, Battalions, and Regiments" and request his assistance in the matter. Secretarially signed, "Wm C. C. Claiborne."

Brigadier General David B. Morgan signs at bottom attesting that this is a copy of the original. Morgan commanded Louisiana militias and led troops under Andrew Jackson during the Battle of New Orleans.

Condition: Flattened folds with wear and bits of paper loss. Dampstaining, with soiling on verso.
