Description

Union General Gouverneur K. Warren Autograph Letter Signed. One ruled page of a bifolium, 7.5" x 9.75", Washington, December 17, 1863. General Warren notifies Colonel E. D. Townsend that he will be back in Washington in a few days "for the purpose of attending the funeral of late Major Gen [John] Buford - my worthy and esteemed friend and comrade." Warren performed honorably earlier at Gettysburg, even earning the nickname "Hero of Little Round Top." General Buford, whose funeral he was to attend, died (likely of typhoid) on December 16, 1863. This letter is very clean. The first half of the bifolium has cleanly and completely separated from the second half. Docketing to the second half, which also bears mounting remnants. Also included is a printed copy of General Orders No. 5, announcing the death of General Warren.
