Description

James Madison Franking Signature on a Cover Addressed in his Hand. 5" x 3" (sight), no place, November 29, no year. A cover addressed to "Major Nourse" in Washington. Signed, "James Madison." Framed with a color portrait of Madison and a plaque explaining the history of franking signatures to an overall size of 28.5" x 18". Not examined out of the frame, but it appears that only the address panel is present.

Condition: There is a tear running through "James" that has been mended with adhesive resulting in staining. The top right and lower left corners have been torn off. Flattened fold at bottom. Wood frame has multiple nicks and chips.
