Samuel P. Heintzelman Signed Carte de Visite. 2.25" x 4", a bust portrait in uniform, with a C.D. Fredricks & Co., New York backstamp on verso. Signed below the image: "S.P. Heintzelman Major Genl." On verso he has also written: "Hart Isld New York Harbor March 26, 1866."

Samuel Peter Heintzelman (1805-1880) was an 1826 graduate of West Point and served in engagements from the Mexican-American War through the opening battles of the Civil War. He was promoted to the rank of brigadier general on May 17, 1861, but was then wounded in the First Battle of Bull Run. He went on to command the 3rd Corps at Yorktown and served at Seven Pines, and the Second Battle of Bull Run.

Condition: Light toning with soiling on and around part of Heintzelman's face. Soiling on verso.
