Description

George Washington: Centennial Birthday Apron. This is a really unique item. It is a glazed linen apron measuring 19" x 27" inscribed in black letters "Tin-Plate Workers. February 22, 1832." This date represents the 100th anniversary of Washington's birth which was marked by celebrations throughout the country. Trade associations or guilds flourished in the United States, going back to colonial times, even though labor unions did not start until the late 1870s. There is an attached blue silk border and two long straps for attachment. There are some minor stains but, considering its age, it is in great shape and the only one we've ever seen.
