[Slavery.] 1861 Virginia Slave Tax. One partially printed page, 7" x 2", Washington County, Virginia; circa 1861. A tax bill for Peter J. Davenport, including a tax on slaves as personal property. It reads in part: "Slaves, personal property...white and black titheables". Davenport signs on verso.

Condition: Flattened folds, with uneven toning and soiling throughout. Small separations starting at the fold edges.
