Description
[Slavery.] 1855 Female Slave and Child Retained Copy of Document of Sale. One page, 7.5" x 8", Jackson County, Arkansas; February 17, 1855. The document concerns a Probate Court commitment to sell a female slave and her child. The copy reads in part: "I will apply for an order to sell Harriet a negro woman about nineteen years of age and her child Eavy about two years of age at the April term of the Probate Court...To sell, at publick outcry to the highest bidder on a time of twelve months to satisfy balances due and against the Estate of Mary A. E. W. Stegal dec..." With docketing on verso.Condition: Flattened folds, with uneven toning and foxing throughout.
