Hand-colored. The 1820 reissue of William Faden's important and long-lived map of the early United States, charting territorial development from the Revolutionary era through the first decades of the Republic. Covering the region from Newfoundland to the Gulf of Mexico and westward to the Missouri River, the map shows the evolving political geography of North America as new states and territories were incorporated.Originally published in 1777 at the height of the American Revolution, the map was repeatedly revised by Faden over the next four decades to incorporate new boundaries, settlements, and exploratory information. He produced eight editions, with this 1820 issue representing the final state completed during his career. His successor James Wyld continued updating the map, issuing six further states through 1843.
Condition: Not examined out of frame. Lightly toned with smoothed folds. Light, scattered soiling. A few minor scuffs to the frame.
