Civil War Presentation Piece: Given to Captain Lucius Gerry, Great-Grandson of Madison's Vice President Elbridge Gerry, by his Comrades-in-Arms. An elegant cane-like walnut baton in two sections, in its original silk-lined presentation case, with 14K gold-filled knob and trim. The top is engraved "L.A.C. Gerry Dec. 25, 1882". It was given by his men of Battery "B", 1st Maryland Light Artillery. Gerry and his unit were at Gettysburg, as the bronze tablet on the Maryland Monument on the battlefield there commemorates. Made by Justis & Armigen, Baltimore. Length when assembled 16.5", and in beautiful condition.
