Slave Auction Broadside.One page, 7.25" x 9.5"
City of Charleston; 1852
Broadside announcement for the auction of "25 Sea Island Cotton and Rice Negroes, by Louis D. De Saussure" to be sold at Ryan's Mart on Chalmers Street in Charleston. The broadside lists the terms of the sale and the names, ages, and skills of the slaves to be sold. The 25 individuals are listed in groups, which suggests a family connection within the groups. Ages range from infant to 60.
Condition: With creasing and soiling, some wear to surface affecting a few letters in the name of the auctioneer. Tape residue on verso. Otherwise very good.
