Description

George Washington Autograph Letter Signed in the Text. One page, 4.75" x 5.75", June 30, 1784. A brief note that pays complements to a Mr. Hunter and asks him to pass on a separate letter (not included) to his brother located in Westmoreland. It reads in full:

"Genl. Washington presents his complimts. to Mr. Hunter, and begs the favor of him to forward a letter herewith sent, to his Brother at Westmoreland. It is a letter of some consequence and requires (if it could be obtained) dispatch.

Tuesday 30th June
1784."

The letter may be referring to James Hunter (1746-1788), a Virginia merchant who worked to supply the Southern Department of the Continental Army towards the end of the Revolutionary War.
