Description
Abraham Lincoln Autograph Note Signed "A. Lincoln." 2.75" x 2.25" (sight), no place [Washington, D.C.]; December 30, 1864. Addressed to an unknown recipient, it reads in full: "Let John Brand, now a prisoner of war at Camp Morton, take the oath of Dec 8 1863 & be discharged." Matted and framed along with an image of Lincoln to the overall size of 6.5" x 11.5".Camp Morton was a Union prisoner-of-war and training camp in Indianapolis, Indiana. Named for Indiana governor Oliver Morton, it was one of the largest of the Union's camps established for Confederate noncommissioned officers and privates. Over 1,700 prisoners died at the camp during the course of its operation during the Civil War.
Condition: Moderate toning throughout, with foxing. Heavy wear to frame, which is in fragile condition.
