Description

George A. Custer Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", with an M.B. Brady & Co., Washington, D.C. imprint on verso. Custer poses in this full-length portrait, in full uniform, sitting on a fringed chair and wearing his trademark wide brimmed hat. The portrait is K-78, taken by Mathew Brady in Washington, D.C. on May 23, 1865.

Custer served with great distinction in the Civil War and was immortalized as the youngest major general in the Union Army at the age of 25. Following his service in the war, Custer would go on to lose his life during his "Last Stand" against the Lakota and Cheyenne alliance of Native Americans at the Battle of Little Big Horn. Condition: Toned throughout, with wear and soiling at the edges. The edges of the albumen and slightly uneven. On verso there are some blue marks. Overall good.
