William Dugdale. The Antiquities of Warwickshire Illustrated; From Records, Leiger-Books, Manuscripts, Charters, Evidences, Tombes, and Armes: Beautified With Maps, Prospects and Portraitures. London: Printed by Thomas Warren, 1656. First edition of this beautifully illustrated work. Folio (13 x 8.5 inches; 330 x 216 mm.) [xiii], [1, blank], 826, [xii, Index and Table], [1, errata], 1, Notarum Explicatio] pages. Bound without final blank. With frontispiece portrait by Wenceslaus Hollar, eight folding maps or plates, one double-page plate, and nine plates inserted throughout. Title-page printed in red and black. Lavishly illustrated throughout by Hollar, including woodcut initials and head-pieces. Contemporary leather binding lightly tooled with decorative leather inserts on the front and rear board. Titled in gilt on a morocco label. Front board detached; old taped repairs throughout; damp staining which has affected several plates including two folding maps; former owner's names in ink on the front free endpaper; former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown.
