Second edition of this English translation by Watts. Quarto (11.5 x 7 inches; 292 x 178 mm.) [32], 38, [14], 322, [3, New World of Sciences], [1, blank], [7, indices], [7, Catalogus] pages. Copper engraved portrait of Bacon used as frontispiece. Contemporary leather binding with light decorative tooling and with a renewed morocco spine label lettered in gilt. Front board detached, spine renewed; toning to contents with occasional light scattered foxing; two former owner's book plates mounted to the front pastedown, some contemporary marginalia.
