Henry David Thoreau. Walden, or Life in the Woods. Boston: The Limited Editions Club, 1936. Limited to 1,500 numbered copies, of which this is number 480, and signed by photographer Edward Steichen. Large octavo. [2, blank], [xiv], 290, [1, limitation page], [3, blank] pages, with illustrated plates inserted throughout. Publisher's black quarter-cloth over patterned paper boards, spine lettered in gilt, top edge trimmed and stained dark green, all but first gathering unopened, in original slipcase with printed paper label with matching limitation number written in ink, Montly Letter number 85 laid in. Spine panel very faintly dulled, very light rubbing to spine ends and bottom corners. First gathering opened rather roughly. Nearly fine in a nice slipcase with minor soiling to rear face and light wear to edges.

[Together with]: Letters to Various Persons. Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1865. [and:] Winter Animals: An Essay. Westport: The Georgian Press, 1928. One twelvemo volume and one sixteenmo volume. Winter Animals in publisher's binding, Letters in half morocco over marbled paper boards. General light to moderate extremity wear. Letters to Various Persons has hinges cracked, marbled endpapers, over-opened at pp. 118-119 and pp. 122-123. Winter Animals has small stain on rear cover, spine head bumped, ink ownership signature on front free endpaper. Overall, very good or better.
