Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer Abroad. London: Chatto & Windus, 1894 [but circa 1900]. First English edition, later printing, with rear ads dated June 1900. Signed and inscribed by Twain, "Truly yours, / Mark Twain / London, July 8/97." Octavo. viii, 208 pages + 32 pages of publisher's advertisements. Publisher's blue T cloth stamped in blind and gilt.

Condition: Some edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed, boards lightly scuffed, head and tail pushed, spine sunned. Text block edges toned, rough-cut, foxed, top edge soiled; hinges cracked, endpapers offset, pencil notation to rear pastedown. Pages generally toned, intermittent foxing and thumbing to margins throughout, heavier to preliminaries, frontis tissue guard browned and foxed. Housed in a custom clamshell box of dark blue cloth with blue morocco lettering piece titled in gilt. Overall, very good.
