Mark Twain. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. New York: Charles L. Webster and Company, 1885. First American edition. With canceled title page (BAL state 2), "Huck Decided" in the contents (BAL state 1), "Him and another Man" listed on page 88 (BAL state 1), "with the was" on page 57 (BAL state 1), page 283 re-engraved and conjugate with leaf 183 (BAL state 4). Octavo. [2], 366, [2] pages. With inserted frontispiece and wood-engraved in-text illustrations by E. W. Kemble and inserted frontispiece portrait (BAL state 2). Publisher's pictorial blue cloth, front board and spine decoratively stamped in black and gilt. All edges trimmed and dyed green. Housed in a custom clamshell of dark blue polished calf, boards elaborately blindstamped and with a single gilt rule, spine panel decoratively blindstamped, ruled and lettered in gilt, and with gilt decorations.

Condition: Some wear and staining to boards, head and tail of spine and corners refreshed, corners bumped. Bookseller's ticket to front pastedown partially removed, some staining and foxing to endpapers. Minor foxing throughout with some thumbsoiling and a few scattered dye stains, including some to frontispiece margins but not affecting image. Very good.
