Description
William Wordsworth. The Poetical Works of William Wordsworth, including The Life of William Wordsworth. Edited by William Knight. Edinburgh: William Paterson, 1882-1889.11 volumes, 8vo. Uniformly bound in half green morocco and marbled boards, spines elaborately stamped in gilt, boards ruled in double gilt-fillets, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers, by Birdsall & Son, Northampton (stamp signed on front free endpaper verso). Volumes I and IX each with a frontispiece, small device on each title page.
WORDSWORTH'S COLLECTED POEMS, TOGETHER WITH THE LIFE OF WILLIAM WORDSWORTH. The Life of William Wordsworth comprises the final three volumes of The Poetical Works, each with an additional title page.
Condition: Boards and corners scuffed and rubbed, spines a bit sunned, a few scattered stains, other edgewear. Remnants of previous bookplates to front pastedowns, mostly covered by new bookplates. Some endleaves foxed, pale spotting to textblock generally confined to the margins.
Provenance: acquired from Bernard Quaritch, Ltd., London, in 1960; William A. Strutz (bookplates to front pastedowns). From the William A. Strutz Library.
