Description

George Herman "Babe" Ruth. Babe Ruth's Own Book of Baseball. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1928. First edition, limited to 1,000 copies, of which this is number 384, and signed by the author. Octavo (8 x 5.25 inches; 203 x 133 mm.). [xii], 301, [3, blank] pages. With portrait frontispiece, limitation leaf, and numerous illustrations inserted throughout. Publisher's blue cloth, front board and spine stamped in gilt. Pictorial endleaves. Top edge stained red. Original dust jacket. Cloth spine slightly toned; some rubbing and edgewear to binding (there is some mild loss at the upper edges of the boards, possibly due to biopredation); some light thumbsoiling to binding; some rubbing to endleaves; some intermittent thumbsoiling, foxing in text. Bookplate affixed to front blank ("Howard Blose"). Dust jacket lightly rubbed with some very faint toning. Near fine, with the possibility that the jacket is supplied (though appropriate), due to it being slightly more fresh than the binding. Housed in quarter black morocco clamshell case. Seemingly less common than a 1,000 copy limitation would suggest. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
