Thea von Harbou. Metropolis. Berlin: August Scherl, [1926]. Limited edition of 100 copies, signed by the author and her husband, director Fritz Lang, of which this is number 19. Octavo. 274 pages. Publisher's textured red silk decorated and lettered in gilt, all edges trimmed, top edge gilt.

Metropolis, directed by Fritz Lang and based on a screenplay by Thea von Harbou, premiered on January 10, 1927. One hundred copies of von Harbou's book were specially bound in red silk and signed by the author and director, and presented as souvenirs to attendees of the film's premiere. The present copy is one such souvenir.

Condition: Cocked; minor edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed, faint soiling to spine and lower board, spine somewhat sunned and rubbed, minor text block edgewear. Endpapers toned, pencil notation to rear pastedown with corresponding offsetting, rear endleaves faintly foxed. A few scattered stains to margins; otherwise, internally clean. Very good.
