8vo. Original blue cloth, stamped in green on upper cover and spine.

FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST BOOK. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper: "Presented to the Society of / Mayflower Descendants by Phoebe Atwood Taylor / August 3, 1931." Also, with two bookplates on pastedown noting the gift from Taylor to the Society, one printed with statement "Presented by the Author a Mayflower Descendant." The author's first book was an immediate success, and according to Penzler sold 5,000 copies, a very large number for a first mystery especially during the Depression Era. The Cape Cod Mystery is the first of the Asey Mayo mysteries set on Cape Cod.

Condition: Slight wear to extremities; minor rubbing or discoloration to covers; small light spot at bottom of the spine from previous library label.
