Description

Frances Layland-Barratt. Lycanthia. London: Herbert Jenkins, Ltd., [1935]. First edition. Octavo. 312, [8, publisher's advertisements] pages. Publisher's gray cloth stamped in red; original illustrated dust jacket. Minor edgewear, lower board slightly bowed, head and foot of spine just pushed, minor thumbsoiling to the upper board, front joint just starting. Cream endpapers, all edges trimmed, top edge stained red; minor offsetting, penciled bookseller's notation to the front free endpaper recto. Internally clean and tight; minor foxing chiefly to edges, minor text block edgewear. Dust jacket priced 7'6 on spine; moderate edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners with some losses, several small creased closed tears to edges (one affecting title), somewhat rubbed and soiled. Very good book with very good dust jacket.

A beautiful copy of this key title in the history of werewolf fiction, still in its scarce and delightfully macabre dust jacket.

Bleiler, Supernatural, 986; Frost, The Essential Guide to Werewolf Literature, pages 5, 302; Locke I, page 28. From the Gary Munson Collection
