8vo. Half title, frontispiece, numerous illustrations by I. W. Taber; 2 pp. publisher's advertisements at rear. Original pictorial gilt blue cloth, edges gilt.

FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, originally serialized in McClure's Magazine from November 1896 to May 1896 to immediate success and preceded by the first American edition by one month. Theodore Roosevelt wrote about the book three years later that Kipling had described "in the liveliest way just what a boy should be and do." Preceded by the American edition by about one month.

Condition: Slight wear to spine ends and corners, small white stain on rear cover, minor soiling.
